The easiest things for us to do are often the most neglected. We all have big dreams and things that we desire in life, but don’t always know how to get them. We focus so much on what we want that we miss the necessary steps that will help get us there.
Sometimes all it takes is becoming more organized and things in our lives will begin to change drastically.
Obviously, the most important part of achieving anything is knowing exactly what we want. Having a clear vision in our minds will help us throughout the process; especially if we begin to lose focus. Every morning as soon as we wake up, before the distractions of life flood our minds, we
should need to think about and feel exactly what we want.
PROTECT WHAT’S VALUABLE – OUR MINDS
When we are trying something new we can easily become stressed, which is usually why most people quit before ever really trying. The world is a busy place, and our minds do their best to keep up. Unfortunately, like a computer, it can only hold so much before overloading and crashing.
Limiting what we allow into our minds is a good first step. We don’t need to know everything happening in all corners of the world, locally and abroad (unless we are pursuing something that requires that info, in which case we limit information from other sources). We don’t need to watch 35 hours of television a week! We don’t need to know why our neighbors or friends’ lives are falling apart. And we definitely don’t need to surround ourselves with anyone who isn’t supportive of our goals.
Find out when the trash is collected in your town and throw away anything that isn’t needed.
HAVE A PLAN
An idea without a plan is nothing more than just a thought. And we have plenty of thoughts throughout the day. So, how can we capture the thought that keeps coming back to us. How can we set that thought free from the nearly 70,000 thoughts that pass through our minds on a daily basis? Simple, make a plan and write it down.
By making a plan we are being more deliberate towards that thought. We begin to bring it to life by giving it special attention. Not only does that thought begin to come alive, but so do we. Excitement takes over as we suddenly have a new sense of purpose as we figure out how we can take this single idea and grow it into the physical reality.
When we write down our idea we begin to focus more on IT than we do on the rest of the 70,000 thoughts we have that are working to disrupt our day. Our daily habits will begin to change as we figure out how to make it a reality. Think of it as a newborn baby. We wouldn’t neglect it, and we need to think about the things that we are passionate about in the same way.
BECOME THE PLAN
After we write it down we have to read it several times a day. First thing in the morning and again at night; several times in between. Whatever the plan is we need to dedicate some time to execute it. Prioritize it, and get to work one step at a time. Even if it’s researching what we want to do, we can’t neglect the plan the same way we’ve neglected what we are passionate about until now.
We are driving the plan to its destination and we need to become one with it. That idea is counting on us to bring it to life. Without us it will fade away and become lost in the universe. It needs us as much as we need it. Our happiness depends on it.
I am going to finish with a quote that was said by Myles Munroe and Les Brown (I don’t know who said it first). Below is the Les Brown version. The two are slightly different, but the meaning is the same.
“The graveyard is the richest place on earth, because it is here that you will find all the hopes and dreams that were never fulfilled, the books that were never written, the songs that were never sung, the inventions that were never shared, the cures that were never discovered, all because someone was too afraid to take that first step, keep with the problem, or determined to carry our their dream.”
