How to Make Money as a Freelance Writer – Resources for Finding Writing Assignments

We all blog for different reasons. Some of us write because it’s therapeutic, others for networking, and some of us want to find ways to make money doing what we love – Writing! I’ve spent a lot of time trying to find ways to make money as a freelance writer. While I still believe knocking on a companies door (email) and offering to write for them is best, below I’ll share something that has put hundreds of writing assignments in one place.

The International Association of Professional Writers and Editors (IAPWE) is an organization which provides resources to writers and editors. They bring together 100’s of different websites that seek freelance writers. They also provide tools to help writers, as well as notify us of any job scams, cause lets face it there’s no shortage of those.

As good as this sounds, there is some work involved. I don’t recommend signing up and thinking jobs will find you. Like any freelance writer we need to put the work in and find the jobs that best fit what we specialize in.

I’ve read in the past that beginner writers should be ok with “content mills.” I don’t agree with this. Don’t ever sell yourself short. There are plenty of companies and/or clients willing to pay competitive wages. If you’re willing to put in the work to find good paying gigs I recommend signing up below.

I recommend selecting the Professional Membership. With it you’ll get everything that the Supporter membership offers plus what’s listed below. This one has worked best for me.

Remember, you’re not committed for any longer than you choose to be.

Finally, enter your payment method, unless you chose the free membership. But remember, a basic membership won’t give you access to the same jobs as a professional member will. And once you sign up, you will not get the savings that are offered above.

Good Luck and Have Fun!

I hope that you found this helpful. As always feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions. There are a lot of resources available for freelance writers, but unfortunately not all are honest and fair. IAPWE takes out the work for us and brings them all together. Some we’ve heard of, others we never knew existed.

You’re awesome!  And I want to keep in touch!
I’ll send you periodic newsletters, business strategies,
exclusive offers for travel and outdoor gear,
and of course plenty of good vibes.

      1. Yes. It’s a list of hundreds of websites and job postings that are specifically sent to that site. You choose which projects you’re interested in. It does take some time to get used to, but once you do You’ll find the right projects for you.

        I hope this helps 🙂

      2. I have nothing bad to say about it. Like anything we get what we put into it. I recommend it, which is why I put my name behind it and shared on my blog. There is a lot of information, and definitely a lot of jobs.

Keep in mind not all jobs will fit your background, same was true for me, but there are paying jobs available. And for about $6 a month, which is what I pay, it definitely helps bring a lot of work into one place.
