Control Your Mind Don’t Let it Control You. Seriously, We Only Get One Shot at This Life

I’m going to make this short and to the point.  Everyone goes through trying times, but sadly not everyone understands how to move forward from those times.  Life is happening everyday, and what happened to us yesterday should never determine the outcome of our life that is happening today.

Everything that is happening to us begins and ends with our thoughts.  Whatever we think about most is what we attract into our lives.  You don’t need to believe in the science of it to understand that living a better life begins and ends with you choosing to do so.  That thing sitting on our neck, our head, it the processing center for our lives.

Having a bad day yesterday shouldn’t determine the day you have today or even in a year from now.  By not understanding the power of the human spirit many people allow the thought pattern that occurred during a bad experience to control their lives.  Eventually, this part of the brain is in use constantly as it remembers a past experience.  Just like a certain part of our brain is in use that remembers a daily task, such as brushing our teeth. We don’t think about it it just happens.

It’s sad when people spend 50 years letting an experience define their life.  Yes, this happens.  They live today still mad about something that happened years ago.  Their thoughts are controlling their life.  Living in the past is a wasted life.  You may be breathing, but you’re not living.  You’re throwing away your life.

By thinking over and over about anything we create thought patterns that allow thoughts to be constant in our conscious and subconscious minds further leading us in the direction of that thought.

What can we do, first…

BELIEVE that you have the power to program your mind.

Then every time you find yourself thinking about something that happened in the past, find a way to bring your mind back to the present.  Whether you listen to your breath, or notice something that is happening now.  Being self aware of what is happening in your mind at any moment is important.

Some things that may help

  1. Exercise
  2. Yoga
  3. Meditation
  4. Positive Affirmations

The last one is important.  Everyday you should must write down something positive to say to yourself, no matter how weird or uncomfortable it may seem.  By telling ourselves over and over again what we want to be, what we want to become, or how we want to feel will program the subconscious mind.  It might not appear simple at first, but your future self will thank you.

Lastly, and most important is we need to be consistent.  We only get one life.  Just one.  Nothing outside of us defines who we are.  It may distract us and consume our thoughts, but everything happening to us is because of us.  Because of our thoughts.

Comment below on my quick thoughts above.

And remember, control your mind don’t let it control you.

  1. I agree with you that CHANGE requires a mindset that enables new behaviors that become LONG TERM commitments. Focusing on a symptom likes weight or blood pressure or depression only provides short term change (at best.)
    Great post.

  2. I like what you said about everything beginning and ending with our thoughts. It’s so true. Giving in to negative thoughts only makes them spiral out of control to the point where we can’t find our way back anymore. I’ve heard a gratitude journal is a very useful and effective tool to get back into that positive mindset. I’m thought about getting one myself.

Really great read by the way. Would you be interested in becoming a Creator and sharing your work with our growing community? I’d love to hear from you. All the best!
